Motability - website accesbility update

Motability were looking for a modern web presence that would allow people with a disability nationwide to discover cost-effective mobility solutions and charitable grant programmes to help them cover the cost of vehicle adaptations.

They needed a fully inclusive, mobile-first website platform that would give all users, regardless of their disability or browsing preference, the ability to engage with Motability and find the help they needed.

Initial sketches

Usability for all was at the core of the project. Because of this, it was crucial to have medium fidelity wireframes from the beginning.

UI

Accessibility is important for all users. This extended to the typeface used, the colour palette and the clarity of the icons created.

The end goal is to ensure the site would meet the Level AA web content accessibility guidelines.

The Photography

It was important to get the tone of the photography right. People who need these adaptations come from a myriad of backgrounds. This scheme helps them to lead independent lives. We needed to show them in this way, through candid photography as well as images showing the range of vehicle adaptations available to inspire others.

The Development

The site came together after countless iterations and multiple rounds of compliance testing to ensure the maximum inclusion for its userbase.

The final Motability site became a friendly and informative place for all to use.

The final look

The new accessibly-designed site allows people with disabilities, as well as those who help and advise them, to find the grants, research and projects that Motability offers, across every kind of device.

The Result

After rigorous testing from The Shaw Trust, it’s even been awarded a WCAG 2.1 AA* rating, meaning it is accessible to our intended users.
